About

Teinya Freedom, Creator

Pum Pum Powa was created January 2019 after the owner, Teinya Freedom had her first child and wanted to incorporate holistic, natural, and culturally relevant remedies into her healing journey. The mission of Pum Pum Powa is to create holistic self care products and services for the empowerment and healing of women. Products range from incense, candles, mindful journals, yoga mats, etc, items that are intuitively selected to aid in self care/healing journey. The service component is  incorporating her sacred family practice of v-steaming along with mindfulness activities. Paying homage to her Jamaican culture and heritage, Pum Pum Powa has become Teinya’s life work as she aims to empower women to prioritize self care, empower self, and take control of their healing journey!

My Journey to pum pum powa

Family History

Growing up in Jamaica

Growing up in Jamaica

Vaginal steaming is a family practice that was done by my great grandma (Laura Johnson) on the island of Jamaica. Although she held no official certificate and had no cover charge, she would steam women and set them up for herbal baths. It was a sacred experience, sharing of resources, and building of sisterhood and community.

Growing up in Jamaica

Growing up in Jamaica, it was normal to use herbal remedies instead of over-the-counter pills! I remember getting my tea fresh off the tree, going scouting for bitter herbs to flush out my system, and family and friends exchanging "bush" or herbal remedies amongst eachother.  Once again, it was a sacred experience of sharing resources and building community.

Continuing the work

It is my intention to be of service and to be effective just like my great grandmother. I recognize that the woman is usually the glue that holds communities together but one thing that we tend to forget is to take care of self. Pum Pum Powa is here to remind women that self care should add to us, it shouldn't leave us with long lasting negative side effects. And to remind us that our healing journey's are worth investing into. We are always worth it.
